Description

Anti-GBM disease is a rare autoimmune disorder where the body's immune system produces antibodies that attack the basement membrane (a thin layer of tissue) in the glomeruli (small blood vessels in the kidneys) and lungs. 

Causes: 

The exact cause of anti-GBM disease is unknown, but it is thought to be triggered by: 

Viral infections, Smoking, Certain medications, and Genetic factors. 

Symptoms: 

Symptoms may vary, but typically include: 

  • Kidney problems: Blood in the urine, protein in the urine, kidney failure
  • Lung problems: Coughing up blood, shortness of breath, chest pain
  • Other symptoms: Fatigue, muscle aches, fever 

Fasting not required.
