Description
A C-terminal telopeptide (CTX) blood test measures the amount of degraded bone in your bloodstream, and can help detect and monitor osteoporosis. It is a biomarker used to measure bone resorption and turnover. It's a degradation product of type 1 collagen.
Elevated levels of CTX indicate increased bone turnover, which can be a sign of osteoporosis. CTX levels can also be used to monitor bone loss in other conditions, such as osteopenia, Paget disease of the bone, hyperthyroidism, and hypothyroidism.
Fasting not required.
