Description
The DUTCH Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR) test is a saliva test that measures cortisol levels to assess how your body regulates stress. The test involves collecting five saliva samples over the course of a day.
How it works
- Collects saliva samples immediately after waking, 30 minutes after waking, 60 minutes after waking, between 4–5 PM, and between 10 PM–midnight
- Analyzes cortisol and cortisone levels in each sample
- Generates a profile that shows how cortisol levels fluctuate throughout the day
- Calculates the CAR, which is the surge in cortisol levels that occurs after waking
Why it's important
The CAR test can help identify imbalances in the HPA axis, which can lead to a number of health issues. A low or blunted CAR may indicate chronic stress, burnout, poor sleep, or other conditions.
