Description
A day 3 fertility lab test is a blood test that measures hormone levels on the third day of a menstrual cycle to assess reproductive function:
- Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH): A hormone that stimulates the production of estrogen and eggs.
- Luteinizing hormone (LH): A hormone that is measured on day 3.
- Estradiol (E2): A hormone that is measured on day 3.
- Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH): A marker of fertility status that can be measured at any point in the menstrual cycle.
Day 3 testing is important because hormone levels are relatively steady at this point in the cycle. The results of these tests, along with a patient's medical history, help a doctor understand the quantity and quality of eggs remaining in the ovaries, and the functioning capability of the ovaries.
Fasting not required.
