Overview
The Hepatitis B Surface Antibody, Quantitative (HBsAb Quant) test measures the amount of hepatitis B surface antibodies (anti-HBs) in your blood. Unlike a qualitative test that simply reports "positive" or "negative," this quantitative test provides the actual antibody level, allowing your healthcare provider to determine whether you have adequate immunity to hepatitis B.
This test is commonly used to confirm immunity after hepatitis B vaccination, assess immunity in healthcare workers, and determine whether a booster vaccination may be needed.
This Test Is Especially Useful If You:
- Need proof of hepatitis B immunity for work or school
- Are a healthcare worker or first responder
- Work in a healthcare setting with potential blood exposure
- Are entering a nursing, medical, or dental program
- Have completed the hepatitis B vaccine series and want to confirm protection
- Have a weakened immune system and need to verify vaccine response
- Are unsure whether you remain protected against hepatitis B
What This Test Measures
This test measures the concentration of hepatitis B surface antibodies (anti-HBs) in your blood.
Results generally indicate:
- ≥10 mIU/mL: Protective immunity to hepatitis B
- <10 mIU/mL: Not considered adequately immune; additional vaccination or revaccination may be recommended depending on your risk factors
A positive result usually indicates immunity due to vaccination or recovery from a previous hepatitis B infection. This test does not determine whether you have an active hepatitis B infection.
Fasting
