Description
The T3 Uptake test, also known as T3 Resin Uptake (T3RU), measures how much thyroid hormone-binding protein is available in your blood. This helps evaluate how well your thyroid is functioning.
Why It’s Important:
- Assists in diagnosing hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid)
- Helps detect hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Can support the diagnosis of thyrotoxic periodic paralysis, a rare condition causing muscle weakness due to excess thyroid hormone
This test is often used alongside other thyroid tests, such as T4 and TSH, to get a clearer picture of thyroid function.
