Description

A transferrin blood test measures the amount of transferrin, a protein produced by the liver, in your blood. Transferrin regulates how much iron is absorbed into your blood.

A transferrin test is similar to a total iron-binding capacity (TIBC) test, which measures the amount of transferrin in your blood that's available to attach to iron. A TIBC test is often part of an iron panel, which may also include a ferritin test or a fasting iron blood test.

Fasting not required.
