Description
Comprehensive Vaginosis Profile
Advanced Diagnostic Screening for Bacterial and Fungal Vaginal Infections
The Comprehensive Vaginosis Profile is a diagnostic tool used to distinguish between bacterial vaginosis (BV) and vulvovaginal candidiasis (yeast infections). It includes both microscopic evaluation and microbial culture, along with antimicrobial susceptibility testing for both pharmaceutical and natural agents. This test also includes Nugent Scoring, the clinical standard for assessing BV.
Biomarkers Included
- Bacteria Culture – Identifies the types and quantity of bacteria present in the vaginal environment.
- Clue Cells – Vaginal cells coated with bacteria; a key indicator of bacterial vaginosis.
- Curved Gram-Negative Rods – Often associated with Mobiluncus species, commonly found in BV.
- Eosinophil Count – Measures immune response; elevated counts can indicate allergic or inflammatory reactions.
- Lactobacillus spp. – Healthy bacteria that protect the vaginal microbiome; low levels may indicate dysbiosis.
- Red Blood Cells (RBC) – Their presence may signal irritation, trauma, or bleeding.
- Small Gram-Negative Rods – Often linked with Gardnerella vaginalis, a primary contributor to BV.
- White Blood Cells (WBC) – Elevated levels indicate infection or inflammation.
- Yeast – Microscopic detection of fungal organisms such as Candida.
- Yeast Culture – Identifies specific species of yeast and determines sensitivity to antifungal agents.
Additional Features
- Antimicrobial Sensitivity Testing – Performed at no extra cost for any identified bacterial or fungal species. Results include effectiveness of both pharmaceutical and natural compounds.
