CA-125, or cancer antigen 125, is a protein found in the blood that can be used to screen for and monitor other cancers: .

  • Ovarian cancer: CA-125 is a tumor marker that is often found in high levels in people with ovarian cancer. A CA-125 test can help detect early signs of ovarian cancer in people at high risk. It can also help monitor the effectiveness of treatment and whether the cancer has returned. 
  • Other cancers: CA-125 levels can also be elevated in people with other types of cancer. 
  • Other conditions: CA-125 levels can also be elevated in people with other conditions, including:
  • Inflammatory disease 
  • Recent surgery 
  • Fibroids 
  • Menstrual cycle 
  • Ectopic pregnancy 
  • Cirrhosis of the liver 
  • Diverticulitis 
  • Endometriosis 
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease 
  • Peritonitis
