Interpretation of Results:
- Positive IgM and IgG: Indicates a recent or active infection.
- Positive IgM only: Suggests an early-stage infection.
- Positive IgG only: Indicates past infection and immunity.
- Negative IgM and IgG: No current or past infection; not immune.
When to Order This Test:
This test may be recommended for:
- Pregnant women exposed to someone with parvovirus B19, due to potential risks to the fetus
- Individuals with acute or chronic anemia, where parvovirus B19 may be a contributing factor
- Individuals experiencing persistent joint pain, especially when the cause is unclear
