Interpretation of Results:

  • Positive IgM and IgG: Indicates a recent or active infection.
  • Positive IgM only: Suggests an early-stage infection.
  • Positive IgG only: Indicates past infection and immunity.
  • Negative IgM and IgG: No current or past infection; not immune.

When to Order This Test:

This test may be recommended for:

  • Pregnant women exposed to someone with parvovirus B19, due to potential risks to the fetus
  • Individuals with acute or chronic anemia, where parvovirus B19 may be a contributing factor
  • Individuals experiencing persistent joint pain, especially when the cause is unclear
