Description
For Personal Knowledge Only
Labs By Request offers informational (non-legal) grandparent DNA testing to evaluate whether one or two individuals are biological grandparents of a child. This testing is intended for personal insight and family understanding and is not court-admissible.
This test is commonly selected when a biological parent is unavailable for testing.
Common Reasons for Informational Grandparent Testing
- Family history clarification
- Adoption or reunion questions
- Genealogy research
- Personal reassurance
- Private confirmation without legal involvement
What This Test Can Indicate
- Whether the tested individual(s) are likely biological grandparents of the child
- Results are probability-based, not absolute
Accuracy is highest when both grandparents on the same biological side are tested. Including additional relatives (such as siblings of the child) can further improve confidence.
How Informational Testing Works
- Simple, non-invasive cheek swab samples
- Samples may be collected at home or in our office
- No photo ID or chain-of-custody requirements
- Confidential laboratory analysis
- Clear, easy-to-understand written results
