Description
Advanced Metabolic & Functional Assessment- Shipping nationwide
The OAp™ Organic Acids Profile is a comprehensive urine-based test that offers a detailed evaluation of over 75 metabolic markers to assess gut health, mitochondrial function, neurotransmitter metabolism, detoxification pathways, oxidative stress, and essential nutrient status.
This test offers deep insight into how the body is functioning at a cellular and biochemical level, helping to uncover functional imbalances even when blood tests appear normal.
This test is not available for individuals under 12 years of age.

Biomarker Categories & What They Reveal
Mitochondrial Function & Energy Production
- Citric Acid, Isocitric Acid, Succinic Acid, Fumaric Acid, Malic Acid, a-Ketoglutaric Acid: Key intermediates in the Krebs (TCA) cycle. Imbalances may suggest mitochondrial dysfunction or fatigue-related issues.
- Pyruvic Acid, Lactic Acid: Indicators of anaerobic metabolism, possibly due to oxygen deficiency or nutrient insufficiency (e.g., B-vitamins).
Neurotransmitter Metabolism
- 5-HIAA, HVA, VMA, Quinolinic Acid, Kynurenic Acid: Reflect serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and tryptophan metabolism. Imbalances may be linked to mood disorders, ADHD, anxiety, or sleep problems.
- Quinolinic/Kynurenic Ratio, HVA/VMA Ratio: Evaluate neuroinflammation and excitatory vs. calming neurotransmitter activity.
Detoxification & Oxidative Stress
- Glucaric Acid, Pyroglutamic Acid, Sulfate, Orotic Acid: Reflect liver detoxification pathway efficiency.
- 8-OHdG: A marker of oxidative DNA damage.
- Hippuric Acid, Benzoic Acid, Mandelic Acid: Suggest exposure to environmental toxins, solvents, or preservatives.
Gut Health & Dysbiosis
- D-Lactic Acid, Arabinitol, Tartaric Acid: Associated with bacterial and yeast/fungal overgrowth (e.g., Candida).
- 3-Indoleacetic Acid, Phenylacetic Acid: Reflect intestinal microbial metabolism and gut-derived toxins.
Fatty Acid & Amino Acid Metabolism
- Methylsuccinic Acid, Hexanoylglycine, Suberic Acid, Adipic Acid: Indicators of fatty acid oxidation disorders or mitochondrial overload.
- Total BCKAs, a-Keto acids (e.g., a-Ketoisocaproic, a-Ketoisovaleric): Evaluate branched-chain amino acid metabolism and protein catabolism.
Nutrient Deficiencies
- MMA (Methylmalonic Acid): Highly specific marker for Vitamin B12 deficiency.
- Pyridoxic Acid: Reflects Vitamin B6 status.
- Formiminoglutamic Acid (FIGLU): Suggests folate deficiency.
- Xanthurenic Acid, Kynurenic Acid: Tied to Vitamin B6 or B3 metabolism.
- Phosphate: May correlate with energy metabolism or kidney function.
Hormone & Adrenal Markers
- Cortisol, Cortisone, Cortisol/Cortisone Ratio: Adrenal function and stress response markers.
- Aldosterone: Regulates sodium, potassium, and fluid balance.
Others of Clinical Relevance
- Glucose & Fructose: Reveal sugar metabolism or malabsorption.
- Equol: Metabolite of soy isoflavones – may be relevant in estrogen metabolism.
- Creatinine: Used to normalize all urinary analytes.
