Description

Microscopic Screening for Intestinal Parasites | At-Home Collection Kit Available for Pick-Up

Test Overview

The Ova and Parasite (O&P) Stool Test is a diagnostic tool used to detect intestinal parasitic infections by examining a stool sample for:

  • Parasite eggs (ova)
  • Larvae
  • Adult parasites

This test is especially helpful in identifying infections caused by common gastrointestinal parasites such as:

  • Giardia lamblia
  • Cryptosporidium spp.
  • Entamoeba histolytica
  • Pinworms
  • Strongyloides
  • Other intestinal worms or protozoa

Symptoms That May Indicate a Parasite Infection

Consider this test if you're experiencing:

  • Chronic or intermittent diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain or cramping
  • Gas, bloating, or indigestion
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Recent travel to high-risk regions
  • Exposure to contaminated food, water, or surfaces
  • Itching around the anus, especially at night (suggestive of pinworms)

Why This Test Matters

Parasitic infections are often missed or misdiagnosed because their symptoms can mimic other GI disorders like IBS or food intolerances. The O&P test provides direct visual evidence of parasitic activity and is essential for selecting the right treatment.
