Description

A reverse T3 (rT3) blood test measures the level of an inactive form of the thyroid hormone, triiodothyronine (T3). The test can help evaluate thyroid function and metabolism, and can help distinguish between thyroid disease and other conditions.

Purpose

  • Determine thyroid function: The rT3 test can help assess thyroid function and metabolism.
  • Distinguish between thyroid disease and other conditions: The rT3 test can help differentiate between thyroid disease and other conditions, such as nonthyroidal illness.
  • Identify underlying health conditions: Elevated rT3 levels can indicate underlying health conditions, such as liver disease, kidney disease, or uncontrolled diabetes.

Fasting not required.
