Description
A comprehensive thyroid test, also known as a full thyroid panel, is a blood test that measures multiple hormones and antibodies in your blood to assess your thyroid's function.
A comprehensive thyroid panel can help detect thyroid disorders like: Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's disease, and Grave's disease.
The thyroid plays a key role in regulating metabolism, energy levels, heart rate, and body temperature. Early detection of thyroid imbalances can lead to more effective treatment and improved overall health.
This panel includes the following test:
Free Thyroxine Test
Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) Antibodies
Thyroglobulin Antibody (TgAb)
Thyroglobulin Receptor Antibodies (TgAb)
Reverse T-3
T3 Uptake Test
TSH
T3 Free Test
Fasting not required.
Additional information about each test is listed below:
A free thyroxine test, often called a free T4 test, measures the amount of free thyroxine in your blood. When T4 is created, some of the hormone gets bound to proteins while the rest circulates freely.
Thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodies are proteins produced by the immune system in response to damaged thyroid cells. TPO is an enzyme in the thyroid gland that helps produce hormones that regulate growth and metabolism. When thyroid cells are damaged, TPO leaks into the bloodstream, triggering the immune system to produce antibodies. A thyroid peroxidase antibody test measures the amount of these antibodies in the blood.
A thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) test measures the level of antibodies in your blood that are made against thyroglobulin, a protein produced by the thyroid gland.
Thyroglobulin receptor antibodies (TgAb) are antibodies that attack the thyroglobulin proteins in the thyroid gland. They are a marker for autoimmune thyroid disease, which can cause an underactive (hypothyroid) or overactive (hyperthyroid) thyroid.
Reverse T-3 is a product of the Thyroid gland secreted into the blood stream.
Reverse T-3 levels rise when the body is under stress as in cases of serious or acute illnesses or malnutrition.
A T3 uptake test, also known as a T3 resin uptake (T3RU) test, measures the amounts of proteins in the blood that carry thyroid hormone.
TSH stands for thyroid-stimulating hormone, a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that stimulates the thyroid to make and release hormones.
T3 Free Test checks the T3 Free blood level. It is used to diagnose high levels of Thyroid Hormone (Hyperthyroidism) or low levels of Thyroid Hormone (Hypothyroidism) and is also used to track an ongoing thyroid issue. When low levels of Free T3 go undetected, heart disease and diabetes may develop.
