Description
The Candida Albicans Evaluation measures your body’s immune response to Candida albicans, a common yeast that can cause overgrowth when the immune system is out of balance. This test checks for three types of antibodies—IgG, IgA, and IgM—providing insight into different stages and types of Candida-related infections.
What Is Candida Albicans?
Candida albicans is a type of yeast that naturally lives in the body, particularly in the mouth, gut, and vaginal tract. However, under certain conditions—such as weakened immunity, antibiotic use, or high sugar intake—it can overgrow and lead to symptoms and infections, ranging from mild to systemic.
What This Test Measures
- IgA (Immunoglobulin A):
- Found in mucosal secretions (e.g., gut, mouth, vaginal lining). Elevated levels may suggest a surface-level or mucosal Candida infection.
- IgG (Immunoglobulin G):
- The most abundant antibody in the body. Elevated IgG levels may indicate a chronic or past Candida infection.
- IgM (Immunoglobulin M):
- Typically the first antibody produced during an active infection. Elevated IgM indicates a current or recent Candida infection.
When You Might Need This Test
Consider this panel if you’re experiencing:
- Digestive issues (bloating, gas, constipation)
- Chronic fatigue or brain fog
- Recurring yeast infections
- Skin rashes or nail fungus
- Symptoms following frequent antibiotic or steroid use
- Signs of weakened immunity or autoimmune issues
Understanding the Results
- Elevated IgA: May suggest a superficial or mucosal infection (e.g., oral thrush, vaginal yeast infection).
- Elevated IgG: Indicates a potential chronic or systemic Candida overgrowth.
- Elevated IgM: Points to an active or recent Candida infection.
Test Timing & Prep
- Results: Available in approximately 10 business days (excluding shipping time).
- Fasting: Not required.
