Description
A Candida albicans evaluation (IgG, IgA, IgM) blood test measures the levels of antibodies in your blood that indicate a Candida infection. Candida is a type of yeast that can sometimes overgrow in the body.
What the test looks for
- IgA: Found in mucous secretions, IgA is important for local immunity.
- IgG: The most common antibody, IgG can indicate an ongoing or previous infection.
- IgM: The first antibody released after exposure to Candida, IgM helps the body get rid of the invading antigens.
When the test is ordered
- When you have symptoms like digestive issues, skin conditions, or unexplained fatigue
- When you have recurring fungal infections
- When you're immunocompromised and have a suspected systemic infection
What the results mean
- Elevated IgG: Might indicate a past or ongoing Candida infection
- Elevated IgM: Indicates an ongoing infection
- Elevated IgA: Indicates a superficial Candida infection
