Description
A CD4 count is a measurement of the number of CD4 cells in a cubic millimeter of blood, and it's an important indicator of immune system health for people with HIV:
Normal CD4 count
- For healthy adults and teens, a normal CD4 count is between 500 and 1,200 cells per cubic millimeter.
Low CD4 count
- A low CD4 count indicates that HIV has weakened your immune system. A CD4 count below 500 cells per cubic millimeter is considered low.
AIDS
- A CD4 count of 200 or fewer cells per cubic millimeter means that you have AIDS. People with AIDS have a high risk of developing life-threatening infections or cancers.
Fasting not required.
