Description
Detect Allergic Reactions and Trigger Reflex Testing
A Food IgE Panel with Reflex measures the body's immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in response to common food allergens. If the IgE result for certain foods is elevated, the test automatically performs a reflex component panel to provide a more precise diagnosis. This helps clinicians identify specific allergens and better tailor treatment plans or dietary recommendations.
What It Tests For
The panel includes the following allergens:
- Clam IgE
- Cod Fish IgE
- Corn IgE
- Scallop IgE
- Sesame Seed IgE
- Shrimp IgE
- Soybean IgE
- Walnut IgE
- Wheat IgE
- Peanut IgE (with reflex to peanut components)
- Milk IgE (with reflex testing)
- Egg White IgE (with reflex testing)
Why It's Ordered
- To identify food allergies in patients with symptoms such as hives, swelling, digestive issues, or respiratory reactions
- To provide more detailed allergy information via reflex testing if an initial allergen result is abnormal
- To help guide dietary changes, immunotherapy, or other clinical interventions
Additional Notes
- Fasting not required.
- Positive IgE results indicate sensitization but must be interpreted alongside clinical symptoms.
- Reflex component testing adds precision to diagnosis for foods that trigger an abnormal IgE response.
