Description

Myocarditis is a condition where the heart's middle muscle layer, the myocardium, becomes inflamed. Symptoms include chest pain, abnormal heartbeat, shortness of breath, and fatigue.

The following test are included in this panel:

Complete Blood Count (CBC)

Creatine Kinase (CK) Isoenzymes

HS-CRP" or "High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein

Myocardial Antibody Screen

Fasting not required.

Additional information about each test is listed below:

A complete blood count (CBC) is helpful to assess for peripheral eosinophilia, which is present in hypersensitivity myocarditis.

A creatine kinase (CK) isoenzymes blood test measures the levels of three types of creatine kinase (CK) in your blood to help determine if and where muscle damage has occurred:

"HS-CRP" or "High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein" is a blood test used to measure inflammation in the body, and can be a valuable marker for diagnosing myocarditis, as elevated levels of hs-CRP can indicate the presence of inflammation within the heart muscle associated with this condition; essentially, a high hs-CRP level can suggest a potential case of myocarditis.

Myocardial Antibody Screen is useful in detecting myocardial disease that includes an immunologic component.
